This post marks the beginning of a new series on OCT, and I couldn’t be more excited. For so long I have wanted to understand how people eat: what drives our food choices; how do our schedules play into those food choices; and how do our food choices vary by city/region (among other questions). I want to recognize before we begin, that opening up our eating practices to others can be a vulnerable experience, and this is absolutely not a game of comparison or judgement. We all have crazy, unpredictable and unique challenges that make it so difficult for us to focus on fueling our bodies correctly. Ultimately, I hope to use this “research” to uncover ways of helping us all!
As the first topic, I decided to focus on our refrigerators. These creatures house leftovers, expired condiments, fresh vegetables, good intentions and sometimes neglect. BUT, what an amazing snapshot of our lives!
Today, I want to introduce you to my dear friend Emily (and her refrigerator).
Occupation: Stay-at-Home-Momma; works part-time at a local high school
Location: Wichita, Kansas
- Trust worthy
- Loves God with whole heart
If you weren’t working at the job you have now, what would you want to do?
Can’t imagine anything else, but if I had to, go back to teaching kindergarten 🙂
Name your favorite five things about where you live:
- The people! Nicest people
- Not too big, not too small
- Easy to get around
- Not too far from either family
- Has all 4 seasons 🙂
Name your least favorite five things about where you live:
- Nothing close to you when you leave Wichita
- Not many outdoor activities (hiking, climbing, etc.)
- Did I mention windy and flat?
What are the biggest challenges in your life right now?
Being a new mom; and husband works long hours and coaches basketball!
What do your weekdays look like?
Taking care of new baby! Lots of bodily fluids involved and tears… but more joy than ever! And not much sleep. Then repeat.
What do your weekends look like?
Currently the same!
Tell me about your refrigerator:
It’s a hot mess right now! And it doesn’t have the healthiest options. It currently has quick options.
What does your refrigerator say about you?
That I am a new mom, have no idea what I’m doing and have no time to eat (or so it feels)! Life is a little crazy right now. We don’t have family meals right now either because my husband has long nights coaching basketball.
Name five things that are always in your refrigerator (or that would be if you could keep up):
- Greek yogurt
- Creamer for coffee
Name your favorite five things to eat:
- Clif bars.
- Greek yogurt with blueberries and granola
Thank you SO much Em for opening up your refrigerator to us!
